Questions about Cohen
Cohen argues that humans are capable of making moral claims while non-human animals are not. This difference, he argues, justifies treating non-human animals differently than humans, thus justifying animals testing on the basis that they have no rights.
How might Cohen address humans who are not capable of making moral claims? Do these humans have the same moral status as humans who can make moral claims? Do you agree with Cohen's response?

Singer and Equality of Animals
Singer argues that speciesism is analogous to racism and sexism. What is speciesism? Why does Singer think it is analogous to racism and sexism? Do you think speciesism really is analogous to racism and sexism?

Questions about Rauch
Rauch argues that if speech is truly free, then there will be racist expression. He also thinks this is a good thing.
One reason he provides for freedom of expression is encapsulated in the following quote: "Brilliance and bigotry are empowered in the same stroke" (4).
What does he mean by this quote? Why does Rauch think this supports "intellectual pluralism"?
