Presentation #10: Cloning
In California alone there is estimated to be half a million people struggling with infertility. Despite the advances made in assisted reproduction, half of them probably will not be able to have their own children. People usually run out of time and money without having succesfully conceiving a child.
Somatic nuclear transfer, the method used to clone Dolly the sheep, is a potential cure for infertility.
Is cloning a viable option for this problem?
Who do you think should be able to clone a child for this reason? Who shouldn't?
Do you think that there will be psychological or emotional issues that these children would face, such as feeling the need to imitate the predecessor or the issue of the presence of a soul?

Ethics of Care
Held argues that the forefathers of moral discourse have mistakeningly focused talk about morality only on those activities that occur in the public realm.
In "The Public and the Private" section, Held argues that one activity is perhaps the most important issue of morality. What is this activity? Why does she think it is so imporant? What might society look like if morality were to reflect this activity?
